How many Calories in a glass of wine?
Answer – It varies, but on average I’d safely say there’s about 125 calories in a glass of wine; a glass being 4-5oz.
How much sugar in a glass of wine?
Answer – Lower than one might think. Again, it varies based one the wine. On average there’s roughly 1 to 2 grams of sugar in wine by the glass. That is also based on Dry Wine, not dessert wine.
Why am I allergic to red wine?
Answer – There are a few theories on wine allergies. Generally wine allergies occur due to sulfites and histamines. If you’re allergic to sulfites you may have an issue. Histamines exist in grape skins, so that could also be a factor.
Can Champagne come from California?
Answer – No. Champagne can only come from the Champagne region of France and be made through what’s called the “Traditional Method” or “Methode Champenoise.” Sparkling wine from anywhere else is sparkling wine, but can be made using the same method.
What’s the difference between Syrah and Shiraz? Are Shiraz and Syrah the same?
Answer – Syrah and Shiraz are the same grape. Shiraz is the Australian name for Syrah. You may see other regions like South Africa or Chile called it Shiraz, but again they’re the same. While Syrah and Shiraz are the same, different winemaking methods will produce a different style of wine.
Why do people hate Merlot?
Answer – People don’t hate Merlot! The movie “Sideways” started kind of an odd trend of hatred for Merlot. While I love the movie, it was done for humor purposes. Merlot is good and you’re not looked at as stupid for enjoying Merlot. In fact, Merlot is one of the more versatile red wines for food pairing.
